![]() ![]() ![]() Season three arrives in 2023, and there's a fourth promised. When a foreign politician's nephew is kidnapped by a far-right gang, the Slow Horses begin to suspect that there's something more sinister going on. There's also Slow Horses, the London-set spy thriller featuring Gary Oldman as leader of a bunch of failed spooks, put out to grass in MI5's backwater office. Neither side of their personality has any knowledge of what their other half gets up to, so the 'outies' get paid without ever having to experience work, while the 'innies' are condemned to perpetual tedium. If mind-bending (yet incredibly, deliberately drab) sci-fi fantasy comedy-drama is your bag, then you could try Severance from director Ben Stiller, starring Adam Scott as one of a team of office workers who have voluntarily submitted to a procedure that separates their in-work life from their home life. Season two is due in July and will see Ken Jeong and Jack Whitehall join the cast. Then there's The Afterparty, from Into the Spider-verse's Christopher Miller, in which Sam Richardson and friends try to solve the murder of one of their peers at a fancy party, with each episode taking the form of a different movie genre. It sees Jason Sudeikis take on the role of a wide-eyed sports coach and general motivator who is brought over from Kansas to turn around the fortunes of the ailing Richmond FC. If comedy is your thing, then one of Apple TV+'s flagship shows – perhaps to its own surprise as much as anyone else's – is the warm-hearted football sitcom Ted Lasso. Think of it as one of the more curated services available. On the downside, it means there's less on the service than on Netflix or Prime Video, but the plus is that every show has the mark of care and attention paid to it – there's nothing slapdash or lazy. Its strategy is a little different to other streamers too – rather than buying up other networks' back catalogues to fill out their offerings, Apple has put its considerable budget (it is the richest company on Earth, after all) to good use and commissioned a raft of original material. Apple TV+ is one of the younger services, but it's also one of the best. The TV landscape has never been more fertile: Netflix, Amazon's Prime Video, Disney+ (home of Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars), Paramount+ and others are currently pumping out huge quantities of great shows. ![]()
